Walk in the Spirit: Sowing and Reaping

What does your fruit say about what you are sowing?

On Sunday, we took a little "seed test" to determine how much we knew about gardening. We acknowledged the simple fact that the seed sown definitely determines the fruit grown!

In Galatians 6:7, Paul issues this warning to the church:

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

He continues by adding the detail that we can sow to our own flesh, or sow to the Spirit, and in light of the entire focus of the letter to the church at Galatia, we inferred that Paul was simply saying that a Christian can spend our energy trying to keep the law(flesh) or living in grace(Spirit).

Two Options

In light of those two options, what does our fruit say? If we are walking in love, joy, peace, etc, it's the best indicator that we are living in the GRACE of God and sowing to the Spirit. If, however, our fruit is the opposite, and we spend our days harboring "raca" thoughts about others ("You idiot") or wallowing in sadness, stess, etc ... then, it is time to re-evauate our sowing patterns!

Every time we sow to the flesh, every time we do something believing WE can do it, every time we believe WE can figure this out and "be a better person" we sow to our own flesh and to the LAW. And, EVERY TIME we do this, we lose!

Let's acknowledge the truth, God's grace is sufficient and Jesus has paid it all and given us full sonship by the SPIRIT. Let's walk in the SPIRIT, and embrace the GRACE given in Jesus and bear the fruit GOD intends for us to bear. Let's sow better :)

Taking it Home this week:

  1. What does your fruit say about where you’re sowing?
  2. Get yourself a partner, a group, a Grace-Buddy and go with God in GRACE … Sow to the SPIRIT
  3. Make prayer and fasting your NORMAL reality. It builds humility and a trust in God.
