Being Brothers and Sisters

Being Brothers and Sisters

When informed that His mother and brothers were outside, Jesus says the following,

“Who are My mother and My brothers?” Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

It's kind of a startling statement from Jesus considering his "blood family" had come to see Him. We looked on Sunday at the reality that his brothers were NOT believers in Jesus at the time, and Jesus uses the scene to teach us all something very important! In JESUS, we are all brothers and sisters and we are all God's family, when we DO THE WILL of the FATHER.

Over the course of our time together Sunday, we reviewed several expectations that all brothers and sisters in God's family have. I won't repeat the list here, but suffice to say that we ALL can find places where we can be a better brother or sister.

How is it for you? Where can you discover a place to improve in your "siblinging" (yes, I just made that word up) in the family of God. Is there someone you need to love more? Someone you need to help, and care for more? Is there someone you need to accept more openly?

Here's the great news! In Jesus we are all brothers and sisters, called to love, belong to, be at peace with, accept, serve, spur and teach one another. But Jesus didn't leave us to figure it out on our own! No, he gave us the Holy Spirit who is here to fill us, to empower us and to enable us to fulfill all of the commands of Jesus and His word. He will help you in every area if you'll simply say, Yes, Lord. Fill me again and empower me to be the sibling you want me to be!

I pray that you will experience a revival in your own heart this week as the Holy Spirit fills and renews you.

Be Blessed In Jesus!
